Reflection
To create the alternate versions of my resume, I used prompts that focused on reframing my existing experience for different industries. My main prompts were “Rewrite my resume for a marketing role,” “Rewrite my resume for a customer experience/hospitality role,” and “Highlight the skills most relevant to ___ industry.” I also used follow-up prompts like “Emphasize leadership,” “Make the achievements more measurable,” and “Reorganize bullet points to match industry expectations.”
The biggest changes between the original and AI-generated versions were the language, tone, and emphasis. For the marketing resume, I highlighted digital engagement, customer insights, and communication. For the hospitality-focused version, I emphasized empathy, service quality, and conflict resolution. Even though the jobs were the same, AI reframed the impact to match what recruiters in each field value.
Through this process, I learned how important specific, directive prompts are when tailoring content. The clearer the instructions, the more accurately the AI reshaped my experiences. I also learned how to strategically highlight different strengths for different audiences, even when the underlying expertise remains the same.
